Brian’s picks – March 1

1) My wife often tells me that she saved my life, and because I am a smart man, I do not argue. She serves as my biggest window to the strength of the female gender. And I am sure she would agree with my suggestion to support the Diversity Through Art exhibit at the free International Women’s Day event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8 at The Commons, 300 Washington St. in downtown Columbus. Benedicte Quatrecasas and Tobi Herron of Faurecia will speak on “The Art of Defining Your Own Success.” Refreshments will be served at the event, which is open to all.

2) Turn your laughter into good medicine of sorts at Stand Up For Life, a standup comedy fundraiser at 7 p.m. March 9 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. The event, at the Pixy Theatre at 111 S. Walnut St. in Edinburgh, will feature a joke contest and a variety of acts, including improv and sketch comedy performers on the bill, according to organizers. Cost is $10 per person for the 17-and-older event. Information: Jan Tatlock at 812-344-7593.
