A Columbus Police Department canine assisted in catching a burglary suspect who was hiding under a vacant mobile home.
Columbus police were sent to the 3000 block of Lamplight Drive at 4 a.m. Sunday about a burglary that had just occurred, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
When they arrived, officers saw several items that were moved during the burglary and began checking the area, Harris said. A short time later, Officer Branch Schrader said his canine partner Argo began tracking a suspect to a vacant mobile home nearby, Harris said.
Schrader looked under the mobile home and saw a man, later identified as James A. Carmer, 20, Columbus, who matched the description of the burglary suspect who had fled from the scene, Harris said.
Carmer was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of burglary, police said.
