I’ve been contemplating the editorials, articles and previous letters to the editor on keeping Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. students safe. I’ve also been reflecting back on my 30-plus-year career in fire/EMS.
I find myself asking several questions. Some I can answer, some I can’t. The questions I’ve been asking myself this morning:
- How many school shootings have there been in Bartholomew County?
- How many teenage drivers have died in vehicle crashes?
- How many teenagers have died in house fires?
- How many teens have committed suicide?
- How many teens have overdosed?
- If the totals for questions 2 through 5 are larger than for No. 1, why haven’t we done anything about it?
- If we haven’t done anything toward working on No. 6, are we truly interested in student safety?
