Evelyn Jean Crawl Ellis, 88, of Columbus, passed from this life at 7:33 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mrs. Ellis was born December 26, 1929, in Dana, Indiana, the daughter of Herman Oscar and Louise Mildred Bonham Rumple.

She married Robert E. Crawl December 22, 1951; he preceded her in death April 17, 1983.

She later married Eddie Baxter Ellis October 23, 2004, he preceded her in death October 28, 2012.

Mrs. Ellis received a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana State University and later received her master’s degree from Indiana University.

She was a life dedicated school teacher. She taught many places in her career and retired from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation after teaching at Petersville and Clifty Creek Elementary.

She was a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association and the Bartholomew County Retired Teachers Association. She also enjoyed membership in Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Franklin Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

She was a former member of North Christian Church and a longtime supporter of the arts.

She enjoyed traveling and reading.

Mrs. Ellis is survived by her son, Chris (Karen) Crawl of Columbus, her daughter, Aimee Bomar and her fiance, Mark Spaulding of Burlington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Dillon (Amber) Bomar, Taryn Bomar, Janan (David) Jones, and Danielle and Taylor Spaulding; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and a brother, Jerry Rumple.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ellis will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Robert Crawl, at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
