County’s jobless rate better, standing worsens

The number of people working in Bartholomew County is up and the year-over-year jobless rate has dropped. And yet Bartholomew’s February unemployment rate of 2.9 percent tied it for eighth lowest in Indiana, a ranking that continues to worsen.

That’s according to information released Monday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

A total of 43,547 people held jobs in Bartholomew County in February, which was 226 more than a year ago.

The county’s February jobless rate of 2.9 percent is lower than the state’s 3.7 percent and nation’s 4.4 percent. A year ago, Bartholomew County had a 3.3 percent unemployment rate compared to 4.3 percent in Indiana and a U.S. rate of 4.9 percent.
