Evelyn E. Lewandowski-Thompson

WINDHAM, MAINE

Evelyn E. Lewandowski-Thompson, 95, passed away on March 29, 2018 in Windham, Maine.

She was born on January 16, 1923, in Germfask, Michigan, on the family farm.

Her parents were John and Matilda Lustila and she was one of 11 children.

She met her first husband, Eugene Lewandowski of Chicago, during his duties in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Seney, Michigan.

They married on Aug. 16, 1941. They raised their family on the west and south sides of Chicago and were married 49 years before Eugene’s passing.

In 1991 Evelyn moved to Columbus to reside close to family.

She has been active at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, volunteered at the Columbus Regional Hospital and was an active member of the American Legion.

In 1998, she married Gordon Thompson of Columbus.

The eight years they were together, they traveled, attended many American Legion functions and enjoyed Gordon’s family that was in the area.

Survivors include the Lewandowski family: children, Kenneth, Janice, Karen (Michael Stevens); grandchildren, Bret, Bradley, Toni, Nicole, Rhea, Morgan, Kalyn; great-grandchildren, Kam, Zoe and Aurora; the Thompson family: stepdaughter, Beverly Brandendurg; step-grandchildren, Rana, Dena and Beth Ann; great-grandchildren, Grace, Melanie, Nate, Morgan, Addison and Bailey.

She is also survived by her siblings, Gerald Lustila of Melvindale, Michigan and Catherine Nickerson of Manchester, Michigan; and numerous nephews and nieces.

The memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Fifth Street in Columbus.
