Donate blood at events this month

The American Red Cross is encouraging people to donate blood during April, which is National Volunteer Month.

Donating blood is a simple way for people who are short on time to make a life-changing difference, said Rodney Wilson, Red Cross spokesman in Indiana. Donors of all blood types are needed to help meet patient needs this spring, he said.

Two local blood donation opportunities are scheduled in Columbus this month:

  • 2 to 7 p.m. April 20 at St. Peter’s Lutheran School, 719 Fifth St.
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4850 W. Goeller Road.

People can make an appointment to donate blood by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800- 733-2767.

People who donate from April 9 to May 13 will be entered to win one of three $1,000 gift cards to a national home improvement retailer.
