Olympians outshoot Panthers in boys golf

Olympians top Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Columbus East’s Mark Mayhew and Jennings County’s Bryce Kirchner tied for medalist honors with 37s Tuesday, but the Olympians claimed a 161-174 victory at St. Annes.

Avery Foist and Kody Reynolds each shot 41 for East. Adrian Adams carded a 42, Layton Erfmeier added a 48 and Cole Schafer had a 49.

Austin Roscoe carded a 41 for the Panthers. Justin Gasper added a 47, Joe Kelly shot 49, Samson Miller had a 57 and Hunter Conrad finished with a 58.

Lancers take third

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh carded a 242 to finish third in a tri match at Timbergate. Indian Creek won with a 176 to 197 for Greenwood.

Bladen Hancock led the Lancers with a 47. Darius Bennett added a 61, Zach Burton shot 62 and Noah Childers had a 72.

BASEBALL

Flashes nip Bull Dogs

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North outhit Franklin Central 7-4, but the Flashes pushed across a run in the seventh to pull out a 3-2 Conference Indiana win.

Jakob Meyer allowed only three hits in six innings, but walked the first two batters in the seventh. Casper Clark came on and walked another batter before getting the next two out. But a bloop single gave Franklin Central the win.

Tyler Finke went 3 for 4 for the Bull Dogs (7-3, 2-1). Parker Maddox went 2 for 3.

Jets fall in 8 innings

GREENSBURG — Hauser came back from a 4-0 deficit and tied the game with two runs with two out in the seventh, but Greensburg plated a run in the eighth to claim a 5-4 win.

Trey Johnson went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Jets (8-1).

Patriots edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County outhit Owen Valley 3-2, but the Patriots pulled out a 3-2 Western Indiana Conference win.

Jake Riehl went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (2-7, 1-2).

SOFTBALL

Cougars stop Bull Dogs

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North outhit Bloomington North 8-6, but left the bases loaded twice in a 7-5 Conference Indiana loss.

Jenna Fath went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Bull Dogs (0-8, 0-4). Lilly Hurt went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Panthers pound Braves

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County pounded out 15 hits on its way to an 8-2 win against Indian Creek.

Carissa Sabelhaus went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Kylee Matern went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Panthers (5-3). Winning pitcher Gabby Mahoney went 2 for 3 with a triple, Lexi South went 2 for 3 with a double and Tori Lee went 2 for 4.

Eagles blank Patriots

NASHVILLE — Emma Summers threw a one-hitter to lead Brown County to a 10-0 WIC win against Owen Valley.

Allison Stogsdill went 3 for 3 for the Eagles (5-2, 2-1). Myka Snyder went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Adri Kritzer went 2 for 2, Sara Fishel went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple and Aubrey Hollander had a double and two RBIs.

Henryville tops Trinity

HENRYVILLE — Trinity Lutheran scored twice in the top of the seventh to take the lead, but Henryville plated two in the bottom of the seventh to pull out an 8-7 win.

Jodi Goecker had three hits and three RBIs for the Cougars (2-3). Maddie Bell, Genesis Munoz, Morgan Gabbard and Savannah Harweger all had two hits, and Genesis Munoz had two RBIs.

GIRLS TENNIS

Olympians fall

WHITELAND — Columbus East won the No. 1 doubles match, but that was all in a 4-1 loss at Whiteland.

Megna Chari and Kathryn Hodzen beat Brianna Harwell and Sarah Scott 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles for the Olympians (2-3).

East’s Louna Prince fell to Reese Johnson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Jenna Shoaf lost to Haley Darling 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Kara Allen fell to Sophie Venter 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Maddy Rhodes and Ayano Nomura lost to Riley Burnside and Hannah Blum 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Panthers maul Mustangs

NEW WASHINGTON — Jennings County dropped only one game in a 5-0 thrashing at New Washington.

Rebecca Driver blanked Kaelee Weber 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Laura Campbell beat Taylor James 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Ellie Hearne won by default at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (2-2).

Maddy Hill and Callie Wilder beat Mac Krous and Kynsie Barger at No. 1 doubles, and Courtney Lykins and Abigail DeCamp downed Aley Klingsmith and Brooke Rosenbarger at No. 2 doubles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Stars edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, but Bedford North Lawrence took the rest to claim a 3-2 win.

Hallee Miller beat Presley Clark 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles  and Julia Williams downed Alex Godsey 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for the Eagles (3-4).

Brown County’s Cassidy Davis fell to Kiera Terry 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Jacey Ferguson and Baelyn Koester lost to McKenzie Messmore and Abby Riley 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Leah Tucker and Olivia Baughman fell to Abbey Bridges and Sarah Gaither 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Braves topple Trinity

BROWNSTOWN — Brownstown Central won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win against Trinity Lutheran.

The point for the Cougars (3-2) came at No. 3 singles, where Lauren Voss beat Riley Roberts 6-3, 6-3.

Trinity’s Courtney Barker fell to Laken Reynolds 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Abby Schult lost to Olivia Hackman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Lauren Fleetwood (T) and Macey Prewitt fell to Rachel Adkins and Carly Brown 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Katelyn Mensendiek and Bekah Brown lost to Sydney Cockerham and Maggie Hogan 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

TRACK AND FIELD

Panthers sweep quad meet

SELLERSBURG — Jennings County’s boys and girls swept at tri meet at Silver Creek.

The Panther boys scored 111 1/2 points to 74 1/2 for Silver Creek, 30 for Corydon Central and 12 for Rock Creek Academy. The Jennings girls scored 129 to 63 for Silver Creek, 28 for Rock Creek and 18 for Corydon.

Kayla Truesdell led the girls with wins in the shot put (40 feet, 1 inch) and discus (116-6). Other winners for the Panthers were Mia Simms in the pole vault (8-0), Alana Daeger in the high jump (5-1), Alexis Harsh in the 100 meters (13.3 seconds), Sam Sproles in the 400 (1:06.2) and Emma Morrison in the 3,200 (15:12). Jennings also took the 4×100 relay (53.1).

Winners for the Panther boys were Brady Shepherd in the shot (34-8), Blaich Blanton in the discus (128-4), Franklin Sanders in the 1,600 (4:47), Jacob Corya in the 200 (24.1) and Dalton Craig in the 3,200 (11.07). Jennings swept the 4×800 (8:41), 4×100 (47.2) and 4×400 (3:47.1) relays)

South Decatur girls win

SEYMOUR — South Decatur’s girls won quad meet at Trinity Lutheran, scoring 66 points to 56 for Jac-Cen-Del, 54 for Oldenburg Academy and 36 for Trinity Lutheran.

Tanisha Bushhorn led South Decatur with wins in the 100 (14.3) and 200 (28.7). Ivey Barnes took the 100 hurdles (20.2).

Trinity’s Hannah Sabotin won the 400 (1:09.4) and 800 (2:52.0). Sydney Jaynes took the shot (28-2 3/4).

Oldenburg’s boys won with 76 points to 65 for Jac-Cen-Del, 60 for Trinity and 21 for South Decatur.

Trinity’s AJ Goecker won the 1,600 (4:59.9) and 800 (2:15.3), and Jacob Rowe took the discus (104-4 1/2). South Decatur’s Jacobi Shook captured the shot (38-1).
