Bloomington Speedway gets in first race of season

Bloomington Speedway and Route 44 Speedway in Liberty were the first two tracks to get their 2018 racing season started without any weather issues. Brownstown, Twin Cities, Lawrenceburg and Florence all had their racing programs rained out last weekend.

Cummins wins at Bloomington

Kyle Cummins of Princeton won the opening night 410 sprint car feature event at Bloomington Speedway. Jordan Kinser of Bedford finished in second, followed by Joe Stornetta Jr. of Indianapolis, Casey Shuman of Indianapolis and Jeff Bland Jr. of Bedford.

Ethan Barrow of Bloomington won the RaceSaver sprint car main event over Ryan Tusing of Santa Claus, Andy Bradley of Bloomington, Brandon Long and Jordan Kinser.

Tyler Nicely of Owensboro, Kentucky, took the top honors in the modified class over Jacoby Hines of Nineveh, Ryan Thomas of Seymour, Steven Brooks of Moline, Illinois and John Clippinger of Evansville.

Jason Hehman of Brownstown started off his 2018 season in fine form, winning the super stock feature race. Josh Divine of Loogootee was second, with Wes McClara of Coatesville, Jack Frye of Bloomington and Columbus’ Colton Sullivan completing the top-five drivers.

Clark takes Bomber feature

Route 44 in Liberty was able to get its first scheduled race of the season in on April 13. Troy Clark of North Vernon won the bomber feature, and Charles Newby of Seymour won the street stock main event.

Stapleton gets win at Daugherty

Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh won his first feature race of the season on April 13 at the Daugherty Speedway in Boswell. Geriad Gault of Morgantown was second, and Keegan Cox from Franklin finished in third.

Courtney takes USAC at Kokomo

Tyler Courtney of Indianapolis drove his Clauson and Marshall USAC Midget to victory on Night 1 of the Kokomo Grand Prix on April 13 at Kokomo Speedway. The April 14 event was rained out.

Courtney took the lead on Lap 13 from points leader Logan Seavey and went on for the victory in the 30-lap main event. Trailing Courtney to the checkers were Chad Boat, Brady Bacon, Spence Bayston and Justin Grant. The next USAC National Midget event will be May 29 at  Montpelier Motor Speedway.

Twin Cities racing tonight

Twin Cities Raceway in Vernon will try for the second time to gets its 2018 racing season underway.

Brownstown prepped to go

Lawrenceburg ready for tonight

Florence hosts Spring 50

The rescheduled from March Spring 50 is slated for tonight at the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The 42nd Annual event will pay $5,000 to win for super late models. Also competing will be modifieds, crate late models and sport mods. For info, visit florencespeedway.com.

Tri-State hosts World of Outlaws

Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt has the rescheduled World of Outlaws Sprint Cars set for Sunday. The event was originally scheduled for April 14, but was rained out. Also running will be open wheel modifieds. For more info tristatespeedway.com.

USAC at Bloomington Friday

The AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series will be at the Bloomington Speedway on Friday.

This week in racing history

This weekend in 1978, Phil Fultz won the hobby stock feature at Twin Cities. Chuck Gilpin was second, followed by Gene Minor, Danny Sipe and Larry Goodin.

Also, from 40 years ago this weekend in 1978, Jim Curry won the late model feature at Brownstown. Ira Bastin was second, followed by Terrence Johnson, Paul Crockett and Pete Willoughby. Ed Covey won the hobby stock main event over Gary Herbert, Tiny Noble, Darrell Smallwood and Bob Johnson.

In 1988 at Twin Cities, Mike Gibbs won his second straight late model feature over Danny Eichler, Russ Petro, Lee Fleetwood and Ray Godsey. Randy Petro won the street stock main over Jeff Daugherty, Merrill Wilson, Phil Fultz and Tim Clark.

Also, from 30 years ago in 1988, Kevin Claycomb won the late model feature at Brownstown over Bob Pierce, Ernie Barrow, Jim Curry and Paul Shafer. Earl Plessinger won the street stock feature race over Larry Harris, Tom Seadler, Scott Patman and Brad Cummings. In the bomber division Dave Kerr won the main event over Rick Graham, Doug Tomlinson, Bob Johnson and Ron Hoover.
