Services and studies

Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 a.m. and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will meet in their regular rooms. Adult prior practice will be held at 5 p.m., followed by the evening Bible study at 6 p.m.

The women’s study group, Connections, meets at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month in The Friendship Center.

A Christian Journey with Paul meets at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday, also in The Friendship Center. New members are welcome. Prior classes are not necessary.

The Prayer Team will meet at 6:15 p.m., the youth group will meet at 6:30 p.m. and adult Bible study will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.

During the morning service on June 3, the congregation will celebrate its graduates.

Vacation Bible school, starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending at noon, will take place June 25-28 at the church. This year’s theme is “Game On!”

Westside Community — Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 124 Tipton Lakes Blvd. His message will be “Greater Things,” with Scripture from John 14:1-14. The children’s program up through grade 6 will meet at the same time as the worship service. The Outlet youth group for grades 7-12 will meet from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Sunday at the church.

A six-week women’s Bible study, “Anxious for Nothing” by Max Lucado, will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday and explore God’s treatment plan for anxiety, found in Philippians 4:4-8.

Old Union United Church of Christ — The message, “What’s Wrong with those People!,” will be delivered by Pastor Kirby Rupp during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 500W, Edinburgh. Scripture will include Acts 2:1-21; Romans 8:22-27; and John 15:26-27, 16:4-15. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m., with fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study will be on hiatus for the summer.

First United Methodist — The congregation will celebrate its Confirmation class and high school and college graduates during the 9 and 11 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 618 Eighth St. The theme will be “A New Direction.” Refreshments will be available between the services, and a bake sale will be concurrently taking place in the Fellowship Hall.

First Presbyterian — During the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St., the congregation will reflect on Ezekiel 37:1-14 and Acts 2:1-21 with a sermon, “Fire and Breath.” Graduates and the teachers and volunteers of the Christian education program at the elementary, middle school and high school levels will be celebrated. A reception in their honor will follow the service. Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. every Friday. A second support group for working-age men meets at 6:15 a.m. Monday mornings.

People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will bring the message at the 9 a.m. outdoor service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. The theme will be “Spirit Poured Out: Dare to Dance Again.” The service, including a bonfire with sticks collected from the neighborhood, will be held on the east side of the church. Scriptures from Acts 2:1-21 and Ezekiel 37: 10-14 will be shared by liturgist Maxine Harden. Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon, and the adult choir will sing “Revival Fire Fall” under the direction of Kathy Bush. Attendees are encouraged to wear red clothing and bring lawn chairs.

The Monday night adult Bible study at the home of the Noltings will be on break until September, but the Bible study at the home of Chris Kimerling will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Sit ‘N’ Stitch will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Connie Nolting. Choir practice will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the Prayer group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Julee S. Nabukalu of Uganda will deliver the message and sing at the 9 a.m. worship service May 27 at the church.

“God’s Amazing World,” a summer vacation Bible school blitz for children ages 3 to 12, will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. June 10 in the woods across from the home of Joe and Kathy Bush. Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The Rev. Nic Cable will deliver the message, “Between Word and Song, We Gather,” at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd. The congregation will celebrate its creativity through poetry, singing and music.

First United Methodist — The next Fridays@First will be the Tristan Grider Voice Recital and begin at 7 p.m. June 6. Another Fridays@First is set to take place at 7 p.m. June 8 featuring the Reen Family. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Events

South Central Indiana Men’s Fellowship — A meal of fried chicken will be served at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Flat Rock Christian Church, 2854 W. Pope St. in Flat Rock, with donations accepted for the dinner. A speaker and program will follow at 7:15 p.m.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The church’s fish fry fundraiser will take place today at 5300 E. 25th St. A car show, silent auction and free-will garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fish fry will begin at 10:30 a.m. Delivery within city limits will be available by calling 812-379-4287. Proceeds go towards the Building Hope program.

GLOW, God Lights Our World, will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday following a supper to be served at 5:30 p.m.

The Flintwood Outdoor Market will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 2 featuring local vendors and artisans and home-baked goods. People interested in renting space should contact Kim Rutan in the church office.
