Baseball players make honorable mention All-State

Five players from Bartholomew County are honorable mention selections on this year’s Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State squads.

Columbus North senior Tyler Finke and Columbus East senior Drew Hasson made the Class 4A honorable mention list.

Finke, a Snead State (Alabama) recruit, batted .380 with 13 RBIs, 32 runs and a school-record 43 stolen bases leading the Bull Dogs to an 18-10 record. He is North’s all-time leader with 109 stolen bases and ranks second in school history with 127 hits, 50 walks and 108 runs.

Hasson, who is headed to Northern Illinois, batted .341 with 16 RBIs and led the Olympians with 26 runs scored. He also went 5-1 with a 2.58 ERA and 55 strikeouts on the mound in helping lead East to a sectional title.

Three players from the Mid-Hoosier Conference and sectional champion Hauser team made honorable mention in Class A — senior Sam Meek and sophomores Trey Johnson and Parker Eickbush

Meek, a Bluffton (Ohio) recruit, led the Jets with a 6-1 record, a 1.40 ERA and 93 strikeouts. He also batted .417.

Johnson led Hauser with a .467 average, five triples and 53 RBIs and had 10 doubles and two home runs. On the mound, he went 5-2 with a 3.53 ERA.

Eickbush batted .333 with two homers and 29 RBIs. He also went 2-1 with a 5.83 ERA on the mound.

Finke, Hasson and Meek were automatic honorees based on their selections to the North-South All-Star Classic, which will be next weekend at Four Winds Field in South Bend. The North and South will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. July 21 and a wooden bat game on July 22.

Panthers hosting yard sale

The Jennings County boys and girls cross-country teams will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the front lot of the high school.

Conditioning for the Panther teams is from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday at the high school.

North girls set for showcase

Four Columbus North girls are slated to participate in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/IHSAA Underclass Showcase event from 2 to 7:45 p.m. Monday at Ben Davis High School.

Incoming senior Nadia Lomax and incoming juniors Annie Anderson, Chelsi Giesige and Tessa Lomax will participate, along with Sydney Jaynes, who will be a sophomore at Trinity Lutheran.

Admission is $5.

Bull Dogs to host scrimmage

Columbus North will host its final informal football scrimmage on Tuesday.

The Bull Dogs will be playing a three-way scrimmage with Martinsville and New Albany. Admission is free.
