Two arrested after traffic stop on slow vehicle in I-65 passing lane

A Bartholomew County Sheriff deputy stopped a vehicle traveling under the speed limit in the passing lane of I-65 and arrested the driver on drug-related charges.

Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Kris Weisner was patrolling the southbound lanes of I-65 at 12:23 a.m. Friday when he saw the vehicle and noted it did not move to the right lane to allow faster moving vehicles to pass.

Weisner stopped the vehicle at the 74 mile marker, deputies said. The driver was identified as Carlos Gutierrez, 25, Chicago, deputies said. Weisner observed suspected narcotics inside the vehicle and detected an odor of marijuana in the vehicle, deputies said.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they found cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, deputies said.
