Harrison College to close today

Harrison College is closing operations effective today, including its Columbus campus.

The college’s program known as the Chef’s Academy will close at the end of the current term on Oct. 14.

The college, headquartered in Indianapolis, had been operating in Indiana for 116 years, according to a press release posted on the college’s website on Friday.

There was no sign or announcement on the doors of the Columbus campus at 2222 Poshard Drive on Saturday morning, and officials from the school could not be reached for comment.

In addition to the Columbus location on the Columbus AirPark area in the north side of the city, the college has other locations in Anderson, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Terre Haute and a campus in Columbus, Ohio.

According to the college’s website, it was founded in Marion, Indiana, in 1902 as a business college, and received national accreditation in 1980. It was purchased by Education Management Corp. in 1986.

Chairman of the board Craig F. Pfannenstiehl said in a Friday email to the Harrison College student body and staff that “the continuing decline of student enrollment and financial pressure with limited resources” was the reason to close down all campuses.

Faculty was instructed to turn in final grades by Tuesday and arrange to return equipment.

Pfannenstiehl said Harrison College was working with North American University and other transfer and partners to help students continue their academic careers.

NAU agreed to provide benefits to students who enroll by the February 2019 term.

The college said it would be be posting transfer options to its website to help students. The college said it was working with other schools and state governing bodies “to ensure each student has a pathway to complete their education.”

Harrison College has announced in a press release it is updating information at the harrison.edu website to help students. Transfer options for each Harrison and TCA campus as well as information related to how students may obtain academic and financial transcripts will be on the website, according to the press release.
