Columbus police arrested a robbery suspect after he was observed walking near Eighth and Union streets.

Police spotted Jayson D. Ackenback, 34, of 12481 E. 25th St., at 7:20 a.m. Friday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Ackenback is accused of using a machete to rob another person last week in the 800 block of Pearl Street, Harris said.

Ackenback was arrested on preliminary charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, Harris said.

Officers determined Ackenback also had an active Jennings County warrant for his arrest on robbery with serious injury, felony criminal confinement and battery with serious injury, Harris said.

Ackenback was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $93,500 bond, jail officials said.
