The Columbus Meridian Kiwanis Club set a new record for ducks sold at 18,671, surpassing last year’s record by more than 2,000 ducks. The 15th annual event, Saturday at Mill Race Park, raised $73,535 for area youth organizations.
Among the organizations who will benefit from this year’s event are the Columbus East and North band boosters clubs, the Book Buddies program, Family Service Inc., and others, said Jeff Blasdel, Kiwanis Club member and event founder.
The Lucky Duck number held by Dane Whitlock of Columbus was not one of the first 10 drawn, so he won the $100 consolation prize instead of $50,000 or new car from Chevrolet of Columbus, organizer Jeff Blasdel said.
