Traffic stop leads to woman’s arrest on drug charges

Columbus police arrested a local woman on drug-possession charges after stopping her for a minor traffic violation.

Columbus Police Department officers at 2:20 a.m. Thursday stopped a truck driven by Betty A. Ungar, 55, of 2261 Park Ave., Columbus, after observing a traffic violation near Gladstone and Ohio avenues, department spokesman Lt. Matt Harris said.

A short time later, a Columbus police canine alerted officers to the odor of narcotics coming from Ungar’s vehicle. While searching the truck, officers located several prescription pills and a pipe containing methamphetamine, Harris said.

Ungar was arrested and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

  • Possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 felony)
  • Possession of a legend drug (Level 6 felony)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor)

She was released without bond, jail officials said.
