Crusaders, Hawks end seasons at tournament

DAYTON, Tennessee — Two local volleyball teams wrapped up play in the National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament on Friday.

Columbus Christian, playing in Division II, lost to Hearts For Jesus (Ohio) 25-11, 25-23 in the first round of bracketed play before beating Hearts For Christ (Kentucky) 25-22, 25-20 in a consolation match. Mayah Schundelmier led the Cruasders (29-8-2) with 14 kills, two solo blocks, eight digs and five aces.

Madison Henderson recorded eight kills, one solo block, 10 digs and two aces in the two matches; while Hannah Stair tallied 26 assists, four digs and three aces. Kayla Jones notched two kills, 10 digs and five aces; Ellie Ridder added two kills, six digs and three aces; Michaela Schundelmier conttibuted one kill, six digs and three aces and Lydia Roth had four digs.

Meanwhile, the Columbus Hawks homesechool team finished runner-up in Division IV. The Hawks beat Valley Escape (West Virginia) 25-13, 25-17 and Collegedale Christian (Tennessee) 26-24, 13-25, 16-14 before falling to Faith Christian (Virginia) 19-25, 25-16, 15-7 in championship match.

Grace Lormior led the Hawks (5-13) with 25 kills, 39 assists, one block and 22 aces in nine matches over three days. Ava Farnsley recorded 55 digs and 13 aces, Sarah Lorimor notched 25 assists, 28 digs and 13 aces, Lucy Herridge tallied 17 kills and one block, Elisabeth White had 31 digs and one block and Hailey Beth Rutledge pounded 13 kills.

Grace Lorimor and Farnsley made the Division IV All-Tournament team. Farnsley also was named to the All-Tournament defensive team.
