Flood warnings for Halloween: Some towns move trick or treating to Friday

Three area communities are delaying trick-or-treat hours until Friday due to heavy rainfall forecast for Wednesday evening, which could limit visibility for drivers on Halloween.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday morning issued flood warnings for central Indiana, including Bartholomew County, from Wednesday night to Friday morning. The weather service said 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall by Friday morning.

  • The City of North Vernon will hold its trick-or-treating from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.
  • The Town of Hope has also rescheduled its trick-or-treat time to 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
  • Hartsville is also moving its trick or treat hours to 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Trunk or Treat planned during the same hours on the town square.

However, the city of Columbus is sticking by its plans to have trick or treat from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, city officials confirmed.
