North Vernon driver dies in three-vehicle accident

JENNINGS COUNTY — A North Vernon woman died early today in a three-vehicle accident  near the Jennings County and Ripley County line.

Jennings County sheriff deputies were sent to the accident at 6:41 a.m. today on U.S. 50 near the county line.

Investigators said Brittany Comer, 27, Holton, was driving west on U.S. 50 East in a black 2001 Dodge pickup truck, and Jason Hamm, 41, Brownstown, was driving east on U.S. 50 East in a red 2013 Ford F-150 pickup.

The two pickups collided in an opposite direction sideswipe, deputies said.

Michelle Hoover, 44, North Vernon, was also driving east on U.S. 50E in a dark gray 2014 Ford Focus. As Comer’s pickup continued left of center, it collided with the Focus head-on, deputies said. The Dodge pickup came to rest in the eastbound lane, with the car on top of the guard rail, investigators said.

Hoover was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. Hamm was uninjured and Comer was taken by another motorist to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, deputies said.

An investigation is continuing into the accident.
