For 14 years, former Southside Elementary School principal Joel Metzler offered an 11-word challenge to his students at the end of his morning announcements: “Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours.”
People listened, and he believes that’s one of the reasons Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation honored Metzler Monday with the 2019 BCSC Hall of Fame Award. Because people listened.
“I must have done something right,” said Metzler, who retired as principal of Southside in June 2013 after 41 years of service in Bartholomew County.
