Generous donations

A wife and husband along with an engine-testing company have donated nearly the entire cost for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department to purchase and train a new police dog for another K-9 unit with the department.

The department recently lost Bolt and his handler Kris Weisner to retirement. However, Emmylou Wischmeier and husband John donated $10,000, and Real World Testing $4,000 toward the new K-9. That’s extremely generous.

Wischmeier donated after recovering from an illness and wanting to help the community. Real World testing previously helped with funding to obtain K-9 Diesel for the department. Their generosity is appreciated for the help it will provide the community through the new K-9’s assistance with searches for drugs and people, and in apprehensions.

Worthy honor

Former Southside Elementary School Principal Joel Metzler is the latest educator to be named to the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Hall of Fame.

He was know for setting an example for students, starting each day with a famous phrase he used to let kids know their choices made a difference. He’d always sign off the morning announcements over the school intercom with “Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours.”

That message resonated and was remembered by students, who learned that a positive attitude makes a difference. Educators such as Metzler who make a difference are special.
