Local man arrested after being found unconscious in vehicle

A local man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after Columbus police found him unconscious in his vehicle.

Columbus police were sent to 11th and California streets at 4:20 a.m. Saturday about the unconscious man in a vehicle in the middle of the roadway, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers had difficulty waking the driver who was later identified as Del L. Armstrong, 33, Columbus, Harris said. Officers noted that Armstrong’s foot was on the brake pedal and the vehicle was running.

Armstrong eventually woke up and reportedly failed several field sobriety tests at the scene of the traffic stop, Harris said. Armstrong later refused to submit to a chemical test and officers applied for and received a search warrant for a blood draw, Harris said.

Armstrong was arrested and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Harris said.
