Deputies arrest Hope man after overdose

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a Hope man on drug-related charges after finding him unconscious at an accident scene and reviving him with two doses of naloxone, an opioid overdose antidote.

Deputies were sent to the 17000 block of East County Road 500N at 5:28 p.m. Saturday where they were told a vehicle had slid off the road there, deputies said. Deputies said there was an unconscious male being treated by Hope Fire Department personnel.

Deputy Andrew Whipker administered two doses of naloxone to the individual, identified as Joshawa W. Coy, 20, Hope, who then regained consciousness, deputies said.

After Coy was checked at Columbus Regional Hospital, he was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of heroin and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said.

He was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bond, jail officials said.
