Services and studies

Dayspring Church Apostolic — Worship begins at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 2127 Doctors Park Drive, Columbus.

On Sunday, the church will be inspired by the message “Behold Ezekiel’s Vision,” which is taken from Ezekiel 3:1-15, where The Lord shares, “…eat the whole roll …”

Every visitor will receive a free gift.

The Sunday education session starts at 10 a.m. and covers “Heirs Because of the Gospel,” as shared in Galatians 3:26-4:7.

Bible study will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and takes a deep dive on the message from the previous Sunday.

Prayer of Power starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and is preceded with requests and instructions on prayer. The Celebrate Recovery session starts at 6:30 p.m. for about an hour.

Ignite is the Youth Growth Session that happens every third Friday.

Eckankar of Southern Indiana — The public is welcome to attend a spiritual discussion meeting, “The Principles of Eckankar,” from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The topic of discussion for the May meeting will be, “A Yearning for Truth.”

The meetings focus on an aspect of Eckankar and will feature readings from the books of Eckankar with group discussions of the spiritual principles at work in everyone’s lives.

The spiritual discussion group meets the third Sunday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Fellowship and light refreshments will follow.

The meeting is at 7850 W. Goeller Blvd., Columbus located in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus building.

Fairlawn Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. led by the Rev. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, followed by fellowship time.

Child care is available during Sunday services and second hour studies.

A men’s breakfast is 7:30 a.m. the second Saturday of every month for men of all ages.

The Last Friday’s Bluegrass event is 7:30 p.m. the last Friday of every month. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along or simply enjoy the music.

Collections and donations for Love Chapel are peanut butter and jelly in May and canned fruit in June.

First Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St., Columbus. It will be a graduate celebration. The church will also express appreciation to all the volunteers who support the church’s ministry with youth. The sermon will be based on Romans 1:1-17, focusing on the theme “Mutually Encouraged by Each Other’s Faith.”

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals, offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — On Sunday at the 9 a.m. Traditional Service and the 11 a.m. Celebration Service, Maia Campbell will deliver the message during a special Youth Sunday where the service is led by the youth, at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. The scripture will be Matthew 11:28.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 10:10 a.m. Child care is available during both services.

On Sunday, the Rev. Howard Boles will have book club in the church library at 6 p.m. This month’s selection is “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind,” by William Kamkwamba.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday service will be led by the Rev. Wes Jones, senior pastor, at the church, 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus.

On Thursdays, Cub Scout Pack 588 will meet when events are scheduled and Boy Scout Troop 588 will meet at 7 p.m.

The Prayer Team meets at 8 a.m. Sunday school classes meet in their regular rooms. Adult choir practice is at 5 p.m.

Celebrate Recovery begins with a meal at 5:25 p.m. in the Friendship Center and the meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the main Sanctuary. The public is invited to attend.

“In The Beginning…” a small group Bible study will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in The Friendship Center. It is studying the Book of Genesis.

Wednesday activities begin with supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by GLOW at 6:15 p.m. The Prayer Team meets at 6:15 p.m. in The Prayer Room. Youth meets at 6:30 p.m. and adult Bible study meets at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Grace Lutheran — The Rev. John Armstrong is the pastor. Worship begins at 8 and 10:30 a.m. with children’s Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.

The International Friendship Center at Grace will gather from 9 to 11 a.m. today for “A Taste of Brazil.”

Light of Life Lutheran — Bible study will be 4 p.m. Sunday at The Commons, 300 Washington St., Columbus. It will take place in the Xenia Miller Conference Room located on the second floor.

The study topic will be: “Why Is The World So Crazy?” The Bible study will be led by Pastor Scott Miller from Light of Life Lutheran Church. Light of Life is a confessional Lutheran Church that holds strongly to every word of the Bible as the word of God. The study will last about an hour. Study materials will be provided. All are welcome.

Memorial Baptist — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m., at 2320 Seventh St., Columbus.

Sunday school classes for all ages follow at 10:45 a.m. There are programs for both children and youth as well.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday service is at 10 a.m.; it is the fifth Sunday of Easter. Sunday school is at 9 a.m., followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m. Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “Taking on Christ’s Likeness,” with readings from Acts 11:1-18; Psalm 148; and John 13:31-35.

Wednesday Bible study is on a summer hiatus.

Petersville United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Melanie Hart, a lay member of the church, will deliver the message “Fear of Flying.” Scriptures from Luke 12:22-34 will be shared by Karen Mize, liturgist for the month of May, at the church, located at 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. Special music will be provided by the choir. Teresa Covert will give the children’s sermon.

A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The Baker’s Dozen study group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the home of Larry and Connie Nolting. The Journey study classis on hiatus currently. New members are always welcome.

The “Sit ‘n Stitch” group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Nolting home. Choir practice is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and the Prayer Group will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

St. Paul Lutheran — The fifth Sunday of Easter will be celebrated Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6045 E. State St. at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services with Pastor Doug Bauman delivering the message, “Raising the Bar” based on John 13:31-35.

Later in the day Pastor Bauman will present on the topic “Lutheran: What does this Mean?” from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Room. All are invited to attend.

Westside Community — At 10 a.m. Sunday, Pastor Dennis Aud will lead the service at the church, at State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus. The children’s program for children of all ages through sixth grade begins at the same time.

WCC will have both a Men’s and Women’s study this summer. Studies meet for 6 weeks from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. starting June 26.

Events

East Columbus Christian — The church presents Fuel on Wednesday nights which includes a free meal and Bible study from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It is located at 3170 Indiana Ave., next to Columbus East High School.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The open market will start at 8:30 a.m. on June 1. The market will be the first Saturday of each month June through October. Local artisans will be set up plus food booths and produce booths. If you are interested in renting a booth contact Kim Rutan in the church office.

The church is launching a Celebrate Recovery program with meetings on Sunday evenings beginning this Sunday. A meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., with the meeting begins at 6 p.m. The church will provide child-care services with safe care givers. All are welcome.

The annual fish fry event is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, and will include a silent auction and free-will garage sale. Orders can be taken for pick-up for the meal. All proceeds go to support Building Hope.

Kid’s Bible Camp will be held at our District Campground in Orleans, June 11-14.

Revolution, which is the church’s Teen Camp, will be held at our District Campground in Orleans, June 17-21.

VBS will be held June 24-27.

First United Methodist — On Sunday, FUMC will have the final Sunday Night Connections meeting of the school year. Dinner starts at 5 p.m., and people can stay to enjoy family game night. Bring a favorite game to share

At 7 p.m. May 31, FUMC will present David K. Lamb on the organ. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The concert, part of the Fridays@First series, will be in the sanctuary, and is free and open to the public.

Garden City Church of Christ — The Incredible Race Vacation Bible school for children age 4 through sixth grade is set for June 9-16. Sessions will be 6-8:30 p.m. and will include dinner.

Kids will participate activities to uncover clues and attempt challenges as they fill score cards. Messages will include the concept that all people all part of the same race — the human race — and all part of the same family from Adam and Eve.

South Central Indiana Christian Men’s Fellowship — At 6:30 p.m. May 28, there will be dinner at the Flat Rock Christian Church, 2854 W. Pope St., Flat Rock. The meal will include fried chicken, cheesy potatoes, green beans, dessert and drinks. At 7:15, there will be a meeting. The Rev. Ron Bridgewater of East Columbus Christian Church will be the speaker.

St. Paul Lutheran — Michelle Bauman will be honored Sunday at an ice cream social upon retiring from her 17-year teaching career at Trinity High School in Seymour. Event will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Room from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All current and former students and community friends are invited to attend.

White Creek United Methodist — On Monday, Officer Carl Lamb will present, “Are you safe at Home, at Church, or at School? The Importance of Security,” at 7 p.m. A dinner will precede the presentation at 6:30 p.m.

The event is free and everybody is welcome.
