ORIGINAL STORY:

The Columbus East High School baseball team is on its way to Indianapolis to compete in the Class 4A state baseball championship against Hamilton Southeastern.

The game is likely to begin far later than 8:30 p.m. tonight as the first game of the session at Victory Field in Indianapolis has been delayed due to lightning.

That game’s start time was delayed by a half-hour due to rain.

Fox Sports Indiana is running a telecast of the game, but is currently running alternate programming during the delay.

For more on the Olympians state championship game, check back here tonight, as Republic Sports Editor Ted Schultz and sportswriter James Pence will be updating the game’s progress on the Republic’s Twitter account and on our website. Full print coverage will be delayed until Wednesday, if the game is played tonight, as it will end too late for The Republic’s Tuesday print deadline.

However, a story and photos will be on therepublic.com tonight following the game.
