A utility vehicle that was stolen during a recent burglary at Greenbelt Golf Course was recovered after it was spotted by a Columbus Parks and Recreation employee on Thursday.
At 6:30 p.m., Columbus Parks and Recreation Director Mark Jones observed what appeared to be a city-owned golf course utility vehicle being driven on the People Trail, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. The utility vehicle was stopped near McKinley Avenue and McShane Avenue where officers spoke to the driver, Caleb D. Bowers, 33, of Columbus.
The officers confirmed a short time later that the utility vehicle was stolen in a burglary at the Green Belt Golf Course maintenance building and Bowers was placed under arrest, Harris said. While searching Bowers’ clothing, the officers reportedly located marijuana and methamphetamine, Harris said.
Bowers was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of felony theft, felony burglary, felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana with a previous conviction.
