Domestic incident leads to a stabbing death in Hope

5:30 P.M. UPDATE:

HOPE – A Hope man is accused of murdering his son and injuring another person in a double stabbing on the southeast side of the town.

James T. Mee, 77, who lives on Scott Street in Hope, was arrested Tuesday on preliminary charges of murder and domestic battery, Bartholomew County sheriff deputies said.

He is accused of killing his son, Charles A. Mee, 50, Hope, according to the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office.

A forensic autopsy conducted Tuesday determined Charles A. Mee died of a stab wound to the neck and blunt force trauma to the head and face, said Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting.

Toxicology results are pending, Nolting said. All autopsy information will be forwarded to the Bartholomew County prosecutor’s office, he said.

James T. Mee remains in the Bartholomew Jail on a 48-hour hold without bond, deputies said.

The second stabbing victim, Barbara Mee, 78, Hope, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital with what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

12:50 P.M. UPDATE:

Investigators have arrested James T. Mee, 77, Hope on preliminary charges of murder and domestic battery.

Mee is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail on a 48-hour-hold with no bond, according to a release from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

ORIGINAL STORY

HOPE — One person is dead and another has been taken to Columbus Regional Hospital with what is believed to  be non-life threatening injuries after a domestic incident in Hope.

A social media post by Sheriff Matt Myers states the incident is a double stabbing.

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies said they received a 911 call from the 200 block of Scott Street in Hope at 6:39 a.m. Tuesday. The home is between Seminary and High streets on the southeast side of Hope.

An individual has been taken into custody and there is no danger to the public, deputies said.

The sheriff’s department is being assisted by the Indiana State Police, Columbus Police Department, Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office.
