Toddlers injured in Jennings County accident

JENNINGS COUNTY — Two toddlers were seriously injured after a one-vehicle accident at 7:48 a.m. Tuesday on County Road 200E near County Road 850N in Sand Creek Township.

Jennings County Sheriff deputies said the driver, Hannah Marksberry, 22, of Greensburg, was driving her 2005 Ford Expedition southbound on County Road 200E when her vehicle’s passenger side tires went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle returned to the roadway where it was over-corrected and went off the roadway to the left, deputies said.

The vehicle then rolled where it struck a utility pole on the passenger side, deputies said.

The utility pole snapped leaving part of the pole dangling in the air while the vehicle came to rest on its side in a field, deputies said.

The two toddlers, ages 2 and 3, suffered serious injuries and were taken to an Indianapolis-area hospital, deputies said. Both were in car seats at the time of the crash.
Marksberry did not seek medical treatment.

The investigation is still ongoing for the effectiveness of the car seats as well as any possible mechanical issues with the vehicle, deputies said.
