GSA Club encourages inclusivity at the high school

The Gay-Straight Alliance at Jennings County High School has given the LGBTQ+ students of the school a safe place where they can express themselves in a judgment-free zone.

The students in the club offer support to each other and give each other advice on how to live their lives.

The students say that they look forward to going to the meetings for the club because they enjoy learning about LGBT history and it gives them a place to talk about issues that apply to them.

The meetings are normally run by the leaders of the club: senior Makenna Roscoe, junior Paige Hoffman, sophomores Ayden Benson, and Alexis Giltner, and freshman Lucy Craft.

The meetings range from topics such as major events in LGBT history and how to combat judgment in closed-minded environments.

Freshman Alex Hyden says that she enjoys GSA because it makes members feel valid with their personal identity, and that it gives them a place to learn about how society has shifted to being more accepting of those who are in the LGBT community.

Many students in the club are known as “allies.”

Many have pledged to fight against bullying against the students in the community and to do their part to make the school a more accepting place for all kinds of students.

The school has been taking great strides in approving the activities they do to help students feel safer in the school.
