Staff Reports

No. 3-seed Toyota Tsunamis captured their third Columbus Parks & Rec Broomball championship last week with a 2-1 win against No. 4-seed CCA.

After a roughing penalty by CCA early in the first half, Tyler Houchin scored on a power play goal that was initially blocked upward by CCA goalie Chaz Smith, but the screaming shot had a ferocious forward spin and came straight down behind the goalie into the net.

Todd Houchin scored the second goal with 33 seconds left in the 1st half when he launched one from just inside the half-ice line that looked to be going wide right of the goal, but hooked in just enough to find the top right corner of the net.

CCA came out a little aggressive to start the second half and was able to put one in when Dave Dickinson passed to Scott Herron for a one-timer up the middle of the ice, and Max Warr was there to clean up the rebound to cut the Toyota lead in half. Later in the second half Warr had a shot that danced along the goal line, but refused to cross the line.

In the third-place game, No. 2-seed Vagabonds got goals from Ryan Ingalls, Shawn Bauman and Carlos Pernia. But No. 1-seed Monsters of Rock saw Kyle Roshak score the game winner with 2:37 left in regulation off an assist from Ben Eckhart. Other scorers for Monsters were Ben Eckhart, Rob Jones, and Zack Henderson.

No. 5-seed Our Name Is Earl blanked No. 6-seed Hansons 3-0 in the fifth-place game. Tom Kareus had two goals and Ellie Lutz added the other for Earl.
