East JV edges Bull Dogs; North freshmen win

Columbus East led 6-0 at halftime, but Columbus North rallied for a 15-13 in junior varsity football action.

Ethan Duncan threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Javeon Smith and ran 6 yards for a score for the Olympians (1-1). Duncan also threw a 2-point conversion pass to Nico Alvarez, and Nathaniel Hedrick kicked an extra point.

Zac Horn ran 2 yards for a touchdown and threw an 18-yard scoring pass to Nathan Palmer for the Bull Dogs (1-1). Gui Oehninger kicked an extra point.

North won the freshman game 32-0. Andrew Molnar ran for touchdowns of 27 and 10 yards, Tyson Arnold ran 10 yards for a score, Hudson Elwood scored on a 1-yard run and Justin Broughton returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown for the Bull Dogs (1-1). Elwood threw a 2-point conversion pass to Alex Clark.

TENNIS

Spartans win twice

The Northside Middle School boys tennis team won its first two matches of the season last week, beating Brown County 5-0 on Tuesday and Central 3-2 on Wednesday.

Parth Shah and Vince Sasse won both of their singles matches, and the doubles team of Michael Crossman and Steven Sun won both of their matches for the Spartans (2-1). Teddy Littrell won a singles match, and Jaishal Padmanabhan and Cam Shute captured a doubles match against Brown County.

The Northside JV beat Brown County 3-1 and lost to Central 3-1. Jace Branham and Zyan Vallette won singles matches, and Wyatt Adams and Azael Alvarado took a doubles match against Brown County. Littrell and Sasse won a doubles match against Central.

VOLLEYBALL

Panthers stay unbeaten

The Jennings County seventh- and eighth-grade White teams ran their records to 5-0 Thursday with a sweep against Southwestern.

Mallory Manowitz led the eighth-graders with five aces. Ava Ebbing and Avynn Belding were named Top Offensive Players of the game, and Claire Hack and Lauren Hauersperger were named Top Defensive Players of the Game.

Syd Kegley served nine points, including seven aces, to lead the seventh-graders to a 25-12, 25-15 victory. Addison Martin served nine points, including four aces.

Also Thursday, the Panther seventh- and eight-grade Blue teams swept Crothersville. The eighth-graders (1-2) won 25-13, 25-10, led two aces apiece from Aida Kovachch and Reagan Biehle. The seventh-graders (2-1) prevailed 25-11, 25-17 behind eight points, including seven aces, from Kylee Franklin.

The eighth-grade Blue fell to Lutheran Central 25-4, 25-5, and the seventh-grade Blue fell 25-11, 25-7 on Tuesday. Kovacich scored three points for the eighth-graders, and Marlee Elston served three points for the seventh-graders.

Jennings falls twice

Jennings County Middle School dropped a pair of matches, falling to Madison 2-1 on Monday and Hauser 4-1 on Wednesday.

Bryson Scroggin scored the goal for the Panthers against Madison. Isaiah Thompson had the goal against Hauser.
