MALE

Blake Huffman // Columbus North senior football player

Huffman carried 18 times for 151 and three touchdowns Friday to go over the 1,000-yard mark for the season and lead the Bull Dogs to a 42-21 win at Terre Haute South to close the regular season.

His performance last week: “I think there’s always things that I can improve on. There’s things that I did wrong that I need to fix.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “There’s a lot of visualization, either on the busride or on the way home beforehand, just thinking about the game.”

Favorite drink: “Peach tea”

Favorite food: “A good streak”

Favorite class: “Jewelry and Glass”

Favorite sports team: “North Carolina”

Favorite athlete: “Bo Jackson”

Role model: “My big sisters (Sydney and Ashlyn Huffman)”

Best advice: “Whatever you do, do it at 100 percent.”

Athletics goal: “To beat Center Grove and win sectional.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably to Alaska to hunt and fish and hike up there. I think that would be cool.”

Mallory Gilley // Columbus North sophomore soccer player

Gilley recorded eight saves, including two in the penalty kick shootout in a regional semifinal win against Evansville Memorial and five saves in a 2-1 regional final victory against Bloomington South.

Her performance last week: “I’m actually really surprised with how I played because I didn’t think I had it in me, but I think it was just all the excitement built up. It all kind of played a role in how I played this weekend.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just put in my headphones before a game and usually play this one song called, ‘No Role Models.’ That’s my hype song.”

Favorite drink: “Purple Gatorade”

Favorite food: “I like snacks like Goldfish”

Favorite class: “Human Body Systems or Biomedical Sciences”

Favorite sports team: “Virginia soccer”

Favorite athlete: “Emily Sonnet (a US women’s soccer team player)”

Role model: “My grandparents (Tom and Carol Kozlowski) and my mom Brandi, and also my teammates”

Best advice: “Take you anger out, and just lay it on the field.”

Athletics goal: “I just really want go to far with soccer and hopefully go to college for soccer.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Anywhere with a clear water beach.”
