A local man was arrested on several charges early Thursday morning after he was accused of crashing a stolen truck into a vacant apartment in Columbus.

At approximately 3:07 a.m., CPD officers were sent to the 1500 block of 27th Place in regards to the crash, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Upon arrival, the officers located Zachary D. Perry, 29, of 440 E. County Road 650S, stumbling on foot in the area, Harris said.

During the course of the investigation, the officers determined the truck Perry is accused of driving into the apartment was stolen from a family member. The crash caused a gas leak and a fire in the apartment which was vacant and did not have an occupant.

Perry was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was being held on preliminary charges of auto theft, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The Bartholomew County Jail also listed Perry being charged with driving while suspended with a prior conviction, according to arrest records.

Perry was being held in jail in lieu of $17,500 bond, jail officials said.
