Local parolee arrested after drugs found in Columbus home

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local woman was arrested on several charges after Columbus police and Indiana Parole Officers located drugs and drug paraphernalia inside a Columbus home.

At 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, CPD officers responded to a residence in the 4600 block of Northeastern Boulevard to assist Indiana Parole Officers who were doing a home visit of a parolee, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When CPD officers arrived, they observed drugs, syringes, and drug paraphernalia inside the home. The officers field tested the drugs in question which tested positive for heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana, Harris said.

A short time later, the officers arrested Mara A. Gastineau, 43, of Columbus who is currently on parole. She was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Heroin (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of Syringes (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)
