Bowl for Kid’s Sake to go virtual

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Foundation for Youth’s Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser will roll a little differently this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

An online trivia game and a murder mystery game on March 6 and 7 will replace the traditional teams of bowlers, according to organizers.

Plus, organizers have announced that First Financial Bank is the title sponsor for the events.

The event raised more than $91,000 last year to help match adult mentors with young people facing adversity. And the impact of such mentors is measurable. Eighty-two percent of the young people matches indicated last year that they had seen improvement in family relationships since being matched.

This year, the goal is $100,000 for the virtual gathering that Emily McLaughlin, the foundation’s resource development associate, is coordinating.

More than $37,000 already has been raised, according to the registration page.

Deadline for registration for teams of up to six people is March 1, but T-shirts for registrants are not guaranteed after a Feb. 15 registration.

Spots are available for both the trivia game (intended for young people in grades kindergarten through grade 12 and family teams) at $5 per person and the murder mystery game at $15 per person (for adults).

Teams are asked to set a fundraising goal of $500. The trivia game will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. both days. The murder mystery game will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. both days.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Bartholomew County provides children facing adversity with strong and professionally supported mentors. The program is offered free to mentors and children’s families. Consequently, the program relies on events such as Bowl for Kids’ Sake in order to continue.

“Creating supportive relationships for our local youth in the community aligns perfectly with our commitment to the local community,” said Tony Gambaiani, First Financial market president for south central Indiana.

Chuck Kime, the foundation’s executive director, applauded the bank’s support.

“First Financial continues their leadership role in supporting our kids, “ Kime said. “They clearly see that our kids are our future. They’re investing in that future.”
