Driver arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local driver was arrested on multiple drug-related charges after a traffic stop at 1:08 a.m. Thursday in the area of West County Road 650N and U.S. 31.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Grant Carlson saw a vehicle make a traffic infraction in that area and stopped driver Brian Bay, 50, Columbus, who was found to have a suspended driver’s license, deputies said. Bay did have a court order for specialized driving privileges, deputies said, but was found to be in violation of that order.

however, Bay had court ordered specialized driving privileges.During the course of the investigation, Deputy Carlson found Bay to be in violation of the court ordered privileges.

Columbus Police Officer Branch Schrader responded to the scene and deployed K9 Argo who alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, deputies said. Deputies located methamphetamine, syringes, a scale and prescription medication that did not belong to Bay.

Bay was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug and violation of specialized driving privileges, jail officials said.

Bay remains in jail in lieu of $125,000 bond, according to jail officials.
