Bull Dogs to run in Distance Showcase

The state champion Columbus North boys cross-country team will be well represented in Friday night’s Franklin Central Distance Showcase.

Several Bull Dog boys and girls track distance runners will compete in the annual event, which features four boys and four girls heats of the “Miracle Mile.”

North’s Adam Reckers will run in the Freshman Mile at 5:55 p.m.. The Bull Dog boys will compete in the 4×800 relay at 6:20 p.m.

Sam Hobbeheydar and Clayton Guthrie are in Heat 1 of the Boys Mile at 6:50 p.m., and Sydney Morlok and Jessica Meza are in Heat 1 of the Girls Mile at 7:05 p.m. North’s Collin Pruitt, Evan Carr and Andy Stohr are in Heat 3 of the Boys Mile at 7:50 p.m., and Brown County’s Abby Fleetwood is in Heat 3 of the Girls Mile at 8:05 p.m.

Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff and Matt Newell are in the fast heat, Heat 4 of the Boys Mile at 8:20 p.m. Mackenzie Barnett, Brianna Newell and Lily Baker are in Heat 4 of the Girls Mile at 8:35 p.m.

Kilbarger-Stumpff ran a school-record 1 minute, 52.8 seconds in the 800 meters in Tuesday’s dual meet at Seymour.

Bates wins Hauser boys basketball MVP

Junior Bryce Bates has been named MVP of the Hauser boys basketball team.

Frankie Poole won the Thompson Award, and Clayton West won the Bob Carroll Mental Attitude Award. Other awards went to Eli Miller (Best Defender), Kobe Meahl (most charges taken), West (best field-goal percentage), Eli Miller (best 3-point percentage), Koby Johnson (best free-throw percentage), Bates (most steals and rebounds) and Landon Asher (most assists).

For the Hauser girls, Aunaka Wasil was named Most Valuable Teammate and Marnie Schwarzkopf won the Jet Award. Other awards went to Kyliegh Parrott (3-point percentage and free-throw percentage), Gabby Johns (2-point percentage), Hannah Johnson (most rebounds), Adriana Musillami (Mental Attitude Award and Most Improved) and Hannah Taylor (Defense Award Hannah Taylor).

For the JV girls, Johns had best free-throw percentage, Jaden Sims was Most Improved, Kyra Meister won Mental Attitude and Bella Kilps was Most Valuable Teammate.

Fundraiser to help North girls golf

Columbus North senior Nathaly Munnicha will host a fundraiser for the Bull Dog girls golf program for her senior project.

The CNHS Girls Fundraising Golf Outing will be at 8 a.m. Saturday at Harrison Lake Country Club. Cost is $89 and will include breakfast and a box lunch.

IHSAA sets sites for state track, softball

The IHSAA has determined replacement sites for softball and boys and girls track after Purdue and Indiana University backed out of hosting this year’s events because of COVID concerns.

The state boys track meet will be June 4 at Ben Davis, and the Unified track and girls track meets will be June 5 at Ben Davis. The Softball State Finals will be June 11 and 12 at Center Grove.
