Driver arrested for OWI after three-vehicle crash

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a North Vernon man on a charge of driving while intoxicated after a three-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., CPD officers were sent to the area of Seventh Street and Central
Avenue in regards to the incident, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they observed the three vehicles involved sustained
minor damage. The officers observed that one of the driver’s involved in the crash, Michael J. Clark, 41, of North Vernon, was slumped over inside his vehicle, Harris said.

Officers noted that Clark had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and was unsteady on his feet after exiting his vehicle, Harris said. Clark was transported to
Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw and later placed under arrest and remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
