The Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress has named Sherri Jewett, a current regional health care leader, as its new executive director in Columbus.

Jewett previously served as chief executive officer of several psychiatric and substance use hospitals in the area including Hendricks Behavioral Hospital in Plainfield and Valle Vista Health System in Greenwood.

Prior to that, she worked with Community Hospitals across the Midwest and East to develop psychiatric and substance use services that were consistent with and responsive to community needs.

“Sherri brings to ASAP vast experience in the healthcare and substance use disorder field, and along with her exceptional leadership abilities, will be a great asset to our community for many years to come,” said Mark Stewart, ASAP board of directors president, and president of the United Way of Bartholomew County.

She will assume the role of executive director on July 12th, with retiring Executive Director Doug Leonard staying on through the end of July and in an advisory role ongoing.

“With ASAP, the ASAP Hub, and ASAP Sober Living now firmly established in our community, Sherri’s leadership experience and commitment to public health will help ensure ASAP is able to continue to serve those suffering from substance use disorder and their loved ones in our community. I know that ASAP will be in great hands under Sherri’s leadership,” Leonard said.

The Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress (ASAP) leads the effort to identify and establish system-wide solutions to substance misuse and substance use disorders. It is a partner in advocacy, education and support for the health of our community and every person in it, according to its mission.
