Wayne J. Emerson, 79, of Columbus, died at 1:10 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.
Wayne retired in 1986 as a machine operator with Milestone Contractors where he had worked for 16 years. He was owner of Emerson Auto Sales from 1986 to 1996 and had been a minister since 1975, serving at Shiloh Separate Baptist Church for 18 years.
Mr. Emerson enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets and collecting fishing rods. He was a devoted Christian and family man.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Homer Whited and Larry Calhoun officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Separate Baptist Church or Gideons International.

Mr. Emerson was born in Liberty, Kentucky, May 28, 1934, the son of Elmer W. and Ethel A. Delp Emerson. He married Clara R. Bidwell on May 9, 1953.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; a brother, Frank (Pat) Emerson of Columbus; granddaughters, Natalie (John) Armentrout of Shelbyville, Chelsea Emerson (Joe Hibbert) of Greenwood, and Brooke (Jason) Soots of Mooresville; great-grandchildren, Riley, Ceira, Kassi, Keira, Bayli, Dylan, Emerson and Jack; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dean Emerson; and sons, Rick and Randy Emerson.
