Betty A. Johnson, age 90, a former resident of the DeSoto area, died peacefully Tuesday April 1, 2014, at Westminster Village in Muncie.

Born in Eaton on April 9, 1923, she was the daughter of William H. and Lena C. Crow. She graduated from Eaton High School in 1940 and received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Ball State University. While her husband was in the military, Betty worked for Bell Telephone as an operator and supervisor. Her main occupation was being a second grade teacher at Albany Elementary School from 1971 until retiring from the Delaware Community School Corporation in 1986.

She was a member of DeSoto United Methodist Church more than 50 years and belonged to Order of the Eastern Star Purity Chapter No. 126 in Hartford City, Kitchen Queens home economics club, and Sunrisers Women's Church Group.

Survivors include a son, William B. (Jane) Johnson of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Melaney Sargent of Clayton and Theresa “Tess” (Steven) Dillman of Bluffton; six grandchildren, William Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Drew Dillman, Lena Massie, Marcus Lybarger, and Stacia Lybarger; and eight great-grandchildren, Ella and William Johnson, Nick and Luke Dillman, Fintan Massie, Ryan Lybarger, and Jordan and  Christian Nunez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Ronald Crow; a sister, Helen Fox; and two grandsons, Richard and Ryan Sears.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at DeSoto United Methodist Church, with burial following at Union Cemetery in Eaton.

Visiting hours will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service in Albany, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
