Thomas George Greiwe, 75, of Greensburg, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 9, 1938, in Greensburg, the son of Raymond and Josephine (Obermeyer) Greiwe.
A lifelong resident of Decatur and Bartholomew counties, he graduated from Greensburg High School in 1956. He formerly worked for J.R. Meek Surveying and retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1993 after 35 years of service. He also was owner of Briarwood Mobile Home Park in Westport.
Mr. Greiwe was a member of Westport Masonic Lodge No. 52 F & A M, Greensburg Power of the Past, Florida Fly Wheelers, Tri County Engine Club, Johnson County Antique Tractor Club, Blue River Valley Antique Power Association, Liberty Baptist Church and FFA. He was a Star Farmer in 1956.
He married Ruth A. Burley at Mount Aerie Baptist Church in Letts on June 6, 1959, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Jill (Brad) Childs of Shelbyville; his son, Thomas Jeffrey (Sandra) Greiwe of Westport; his sisters, Betty (Ray) Sample of Greensburg and Janet (Doug) Einhaus of Westport; his brothers, David (Judy) Greiwe of Columbus and Mike (Barb) Greiwe of Greensburg; his grandchildren, Sara Rae (Luke) Hampton, Thomas Joshua (Brittney) Greiwe, Morgan Childs, Adam (Sara) Childs and Benjamin Childs; and his great-grandchildren, Ashton and Ryker Hampton and Kyleigh Childs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred Greiwe; and sisters, Patricia Lowery, Jane Hailey and Rosemary Collins.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Jon Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Aerie Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Burney Volunteer Fire Department.
