George Joseph Roberts, 83, of Shields Drive, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in Huntsville, Alabama.
George was born March 8, 1931, in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of Joseph and Bernice Storm Roberts. He married Joanna Eavey August 19, 1956.
While in high school, George served in the Indiana National Guard. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic and electrician. George retired from Cummins Engine Company where he worked for 38 years.
He was a licensed private pilot for over 20 years and a member of East Columbus United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at East Columbus United Methodist Church, with Pastor Charles Aigner officiating. Calling will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Columbus United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association Heartwalk, in care of Dr. Mark Jones, Indiana Heart Physicians, 5330 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis, IN 46237.
Survivors include his daughter, Rachelle (Kirk) Miller of Hartselle, Alabama; grandchildren, Wyatt and Indie Miller; and sisters-in-law, Sarah (Jerry) Robertson of Noblesville, Indiana, and Norma Eavey of Jasonville, Indiana;
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joanna on May 9, 2010; a brother, Tom Roberts; a brother-in-law, Bob Eavey; and an infant sister.
