Benfica could have opened an early gap to its main title rivals after FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon were both held to 1-1 draws on Saturday. All three teams had won their opening games.

Also Sunday; Boavista defeated Tondela 1-0, Estoril beat Moreirense 2-0 and Vitoria drew Belenenses 1-1.
