DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers have designated outfielder Ezequiel Carrera for assignment.

The Tigers also announced Thursday that they have claimed right-hander Josh Zeid off waivers. Zeid appeared in 23 games — all in relief — for the Houston Astros last season.

Carrera hit .261 in 45 games for Detroit in 2014, but the Tigers recently traded for center fielder Anthony Gose, so they didn't need Carrera.

The Tigers also purchased the contracts of right-hander Angel Nesbitt and infielder Dixon Machado from Double-A Erie.
