North Vernon Police Department officers responded to a report of a man being threatened with a knife at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of State and Scott streets.

Officer Isaac Barkes spoke with the victim who said he was confronted by two men and one woman. A verbal altercation occurred, and then one of the men held a knife to the victim’s neck while making threats towards him, according to a police department news release.

The men told the victim to empty his pockets and tried to take a cellphone and phone charger he was carrying. The woman attempted to grab the victim’s phone as he tried to call police, the police department said.

While speaking with the victim, Barkes observed a man walking on a nearby sidewalk whom victim was able to identify as one of the subjects in the altercation. Barkes found the other man and the woman as they emerged from the space between two nearby houses. All three were detained and arrested, the police department said.

While questioning the suspects, knives were removed from one of the detained men. Several bags containing stolen items from multiple vehicles were also located. The items were collected and other victims were located for some of the recovered items, the police department said. Drug paraphernalia also was located in the woman’s purse.
