Two films highlight restoration at YES Cinema

In a broken world, there is room — and grace — for restoration.

That theme will be highlighted in two films Community Church of Columbus is sponsoring Monday at YES Cinema, Fourth and Jackson streets in Columbus.

“When The Game Stands Tall,” rated PG and starring Jim Caviezel and Laura Dern, focuses on the real-life, record-setting 151-game (1992–2003) high school football winning streak by De La Salle High School of Concord, California. The movie includes a lesson or two about sacrifice and selflessness.

The film, an adaptation of the 2003 book of the same name by Neil Hayes, will be shown at 5:30 and 7:50 p.m.

“Gimme Shelter,” rated PG-13 and starring Vanessa Hudgens and James Earl Jones, is based on a true story about a pregnant teenager, Apple (Hudgens), who runs away from her abusive, drug-addicted mother (Rosario Dawson), and goes to live with her father (Brendan Fraser) — until he rejects her. Jones plays a chaplain she confides in.

The movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $2 in advance at YES or Community Downtown, 522 Seventh St., and $3 at the door.
