Because of a lower-than-expected total assessed valuation in Bartholomew County, most home and business owners faced considerably higher property tax bills.

1990

More than 25 years after his death, Frank Sparks, co-founder of an Indianapolis tire pump company that became Arvin Industries, was inducted into the Central Indiana Business Hall of Fame.

1965

A young Columbus boy was rescued by Meshberger Stone employees from a snow-filled trench at the Cummins Engine Co. Tech Center building site where he had been buried neck-deep with his arms pinned to his sides. Scared but apparently unhurt, he ran for home before anyone could ask his name.
