5K course marshals: Course marshals are needed for the second annual Thrive Alliance/JCB 5K Run, Walk and Roll from 7 to 10 a.m. April 11. Marshals are stationed at key intersections and various locations along the race course to make sure all runners and walkers are safe and make the correct turns, and to cheer them on to the finish. Earth Day assistance: The Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center needs six to 10 adult volunteers to help with various Earth Day activities from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 at the center, 720 S. Mapleton St. Activities include a plant swap, kid’s educational activities, hot dog roast, recycling collection, distributing information and directing attendees. Top toppers: The Caring Parents Program provides the Period of Purple Crying education to family members of infants born at Columbus Regional Hospital. The education is a prevention program for Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma. Along with this education, program organizers provide purple knitted or crocheted baby hats for each family to take home with them. The program currently needs about 250 more of the hats.
