Letter: 2 strong parties improves government

From: Jean Marr Wilkins

We need two strong political parties.

One-party rule in a country, in a state or in a county leads to extremism. We have seen this recently with the passage of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

This bill was unnecessary and divisive and has made the very word “Indiana” a punchline nationwide. Where there are two strong political parties, common sense and popular consensus are much more likely to prevail.

We need balance in our political system. Promote better government: This November, think twice before you pull that lever for the straight Republican ticket.
